About the Post / Opportunity

IIT Bombay invites applications from dynamic and qualified Indian citizens for the post of Assistant Registrar (Legal). The position offers an opportunity to manage legal affairs, compliance, and policy interpretation within one of India’s top educational institutions. The selected candidate will serve in the Legal Cell and handle matters related to contracts, service rules, and statutory compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Handling disciplinary proceedings, court cases, and legal issues related to service and labour laws.
• Drafting Leave and License Agreements and other legal documents.
• Managing RTI-related matters, including applications, appeals, and representation before the CIC.
• Providing legal advice on Central and State laws, service rules, labour laws, and contract management.
• Coordinating with external legal counsel and government authorities.
• Supporting administrative units with legal vetting, policy interpretation, and statutory compliance.
• Assisting in the drafting and review of institutional regulations, circulars, and contracts.

Eligibility

Essential Qualification:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade point average from a recognized University.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience; OR Master’s Degree in Law (LLM) with 6 years of relevant experience.
• Out of this, 3 years must be at Pay Level 7 (₹44,900–₹1,42,400) or 1 year at Pay Level 8 (₹47,600–₹1,51,100) or equivalent.
• The Law degree must be recognized by the Bar Council of India.

Desirable:
• Knowledge of Central/State laws, statutory regulations, service rules, labour laws, and contract management.
• Experience in handling legal matters in corporate or institutional legal departments.
• Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.

Salary / Perks

• Pay Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500) as per the 7th CPC.
• Gross pay includes Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and Transport Allowance.
• Additional benefits include medical facilities, campus accommodation (subject to availability), children education allowance, and other perks as per Institute norms.

Selection Process

• Scrutiny and screening of applications will be carried out based on eligibility criteria.
• Shortlisted candidates will appear for a written test for further shortlisting.
• The final selection will be based on an interview.
• The cut-off for written test qualification will be: UR/EWS – 60%, OBC(NCL) – 54%, SC/ST – 40%.
• Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview.
