About the organization
The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) is a quasi-judicial body established under Section 408 of the Companies Act, 2013, functioning under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. It adjudicates matters related to corporate disputes, insolvency, company law violations, mergers, and restructuring. NCLT’s benches are spread across India and play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and time-bound resolution of corporate legal matters.
About the post/opportunity
Applications are invited from eligible officers working under the Central or State Governments, Union Territories, Courts, Tribunals, or statutory organisations for appointment on deputation basis to various administrative and legal posts in different NCLT benches across the country.
The recruitment aims to strengthen NCLT’s judicial infrastructure by engaging qualified personnel with experience in administration, court procedures, and legal matters.

Roles & Responsibilities
Deputy Registrar
• Oversee administration, coordination, and management of the Tribunal bench operations.
• Supervise staff and maintain judicial records, orders, and correspondence.
• Ensure procedural compliance and manage daily cause lists and hearings.
• Liaise between the Registrar, Members, and other government offices.
Court Officer
• Provide assistance to the Bench in the preparation of case files, cause lists, and order drafts.
• Conduct scrutiny of petitions, affidavits, and other documents filed before the Tribunal.
• Ensure the maintenance of records, registers, and case status.
• Facilitate the execution of judicial and administrative directions issued by the Bench.
Senior Legal Assistant
• Assist in legal research, drafting of orders, and preparation of notes for Members.
• Maintain case law references, legal precedents, and assist in interpretation of statutory provisions.
• Support the registry in managing petitions, appeals, and written submissions.
• Aid in the consolidation of case files and compilation of records for hearings.
Stenographer Grade-I / Personal Assistant
• Take dictation and transcribe official orders, judgments, and minutes at prescribed speed norms (100 WPM dictation, 50 WPM transcription).
• Maintain confidentiality of judicial communications and correspondence.
• Provide administrative and secretarial support to the Members or senior officers of the Tribunal.
• Manage scheduling, record keeping, and coordination of official duties.
Record Assistant
• Handle record management, indexing, and retrieval of case files and official documents.
• Maintain registers and archives in accordance with NCLT record retention policy.
• Assist the administrative section in preservation, digitization, and disposal of old files.
• Ensure systematic organization and upkeep of physical and electronic records.
Eligibility
General Requirements:
All posts are to be filled on deputation basis from officers working in Central/State Governments, Union Territories, Courts, Tribunals, or statutory organisations.
Deputy Registrar
• Education: Degree in Law from a recognised university.
• Experience:
- Holding analogous post on regular basis; or
- At least five years’ regular service in Level 11 as per 7th CPC Pay Matrix or equivalent.
- Experience in administrative, establishment, or court-related matters.
• Age: Not exceeding 56 years as on the closing date.
• Tenure: Initially three years, extendable up to five years.
Court Officer
• Education: Preferably a degree in Law from a recognised university.
• Experience:
- Holding analogous post; or
- Two years’ regular service in Level 7; or
- Six years’ service in Level 6 in the Pay Matrix.
- Experience in administrative or court work.
• Age: Maximum 56 years as on closing date.
• Tenure: Up to three years on deputation.
Senior Legal Assistant
• Education: Degree in Law from a recognised university.
• Experience:
- Holding analogous post; or
- Five years’ service in Level 6; or
- Eight years’ service in Level 5 in the Pay Matrix.
• Age: Maximum 56 years as on closing date.
• Tenure: Three years on deputation basis.
Stenographer Grade-I / Personal Assistant
• Skill Norms:
- Dictation: 100 words per minute (English).
- Transcription: 50 words per minute on computer.
• Experience: - Holding analogous post; or
- Six years’ service in Level 5; or
- Ten years’ service in Level 4 in Pay Matrix.
• Age: Maximum 56 years on closing date.
• Tenure: Three years on deputation.
Record Assistant
• Experience:
- Holding analogous post on regular basis; or
- Eight years’ service in Level 2 in Pay Matrix.
• Age: Maximum 56 years as on closing date.
• Tenure: Three years on deputation.
Note: Service rendered before implementation of the 7th CPC (i.e., prior to 01.01.2016) will be deemed equivalent for eligibility purposes.
Salary / Perks
Pay levels are governed by the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix, along with applicable allowances and deputation benefits:
- Deputy Registrar: Level 12 (₹78,800 – ₹2,09,200)
- Court Officer: Level 8 (₹47,600 – ₹1,51,100)
- Senior Legal Assistant: Level 7 (₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400)
- Stenographer Grade-I/Personal Assistant: Level 6 (₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400)
- Record Assistant: Level 4 (₹25,500 – ₹81,100)
Officers already availing GPRA facilities in their parent cadre may continue to avail them while on deputation to NCLT.
