The West Bengal Police is the law-enforcement agency responsible for maintaining public order and investigation of criminal offences in the State of West Bengal. The Bongaon Police District operates under the Police Establishment Branch (Law Cell), Home & Hill Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal.

About the Post / Opportunity

Applications are invited for engagement of Senior Legal Consultant on a contractual basis for the Bongaon Police District. The consultant will provide legal advice to investigating officers and assist in criminal justice processes at various stages of investigation and court proceedings.

Roles and Responsibilities

Criminal Case Related Work

• Providing legal advice to Investigating Officers from registration of FIR till filing of charge-sheet

• Assisting in drafting legal documents and case papers

• Advising on bail matters and miscellaneous petitions in various courts including High Court and Supreme Court

• Assisting police officers in preparing questionnaires for expert opinions (doctors, forensic laboratories etc.)

• Interpreting laws, statutory rules, and amendments for investigation purposes

• Advising on preparation of final report to ensure conviction

• Appearing before courts on behalf of Investigating Officer / police officer when required

Miscellaneous Legal Work

• Preparing replies to notices received from statutory authorities and commissions

• Assisting in replies to writ petitions / SLPs before High Court or Supreme Court

• Providing legal assistance in matters assigned by Unit Head

The consultant will render legal advice to investigating officers at police stations and offices.

Eligibility

• Law Graduate from a recognised university

• Registered legal practitioner

• Retired PP/APP or advocates empanelled with Government panels may apply
