About the Post / Opportunity

The application is for the engagement of a Consultant B (Legal) on a contractual basis.

• Division: CS III (Biodiversity) Division of the MoEFCC.
• Tenure: Initially up to three years (1+1+1), based on performance. An extension of up to two additional years may be considered on a case-to-case basis.
• Nature: Purely temporary and contractual; no requests for promotion will be entertained.

Roles and Responsibilities

The consultant will be based in New Delhi but will require travel outside Delhi for official duties. Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting Adjudicating Officers under the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Act, 2023.
• Supporting MoEFCC on legal matters and liaisoning with the NBA, other Ministries, and State Governments.
• Assisting MoEFCC in filing affidavits and counter-affidavits before various Courts and Tribunals.
• Undertaking any other works assigned by the Ministry.

Eligibility

• Essential Qualification: Master of Law (LLM) from a recognized University approved by the Bar Council of India.
• Essential Experience: Minimum of 09 years of practice as an advocate and knowledge of MS Office.
• Age Limit: Maximum 45 years as on the last date for receipt of applications.
• Desirable Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of practice in District/High Courts or Tribunals specifically in Environment and Biodiversity Laws.
  • Knowledge of the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Act, 2023.
  • Strong analytical and legal research capabilities.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and Hindi.

Salary/Perks

• Remuneration: Rs. 80,000/- per month (Consolidated), subject to TDS.
• Leave: Eligible for one day of leave per calendar month. Unavailed leave can be carried forward within a single tenure year but not to the next year.
• Exclusions: No entitlement to DA, residential accommodation, telephone, personal staff, CGHS, or medical reimbursement.
• Travel: TA/DA and hotel accommodation for official tours will be provided as per SR 190 provisions.
