About the Organisation

The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks (CGPDTM) functions under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The office administers India’s intellectual property regime relating to Trade Marks, Geographical Indications, Patents, and Designs.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites online applications for recruitment to the post of Examiner of Trade Marks & Geographical Indications, a statutory quasi-judicial legal position involving examination and adjudication under intellectual property laws

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Examination of Trade Mark and Geographical Indication applications
  • Discharge of statutory quasi-judicial functions under IP legislations
  • Consideration of objections, replies, and legal submissions
  • Passing reasoned orders under the supervision of the Registrar
  • Performance of incidental legal and administrative duties as assigned

 

Eligibility

Educational Qualification

  • Degree in Law from a recognised university

Experience

  • Two years’ experience in:
    • Handling court cases and other legal matters OR
    • Handling matters relating to Trade Marks and Geographical Indications

Desirable Qualification

  • Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property Law
