The High Court of Judicature at Bombay is one of the oldest and highest courts in India, with jurisdiction spanning Maharashtra and Goa, along with benches at Nagpur, Aurangabad, and a circuit bench at Kolhapur.
About the Post / Opportunity
Applications are invited from eligible candidates to prepare a Select List of 24 candidates to be appointed as 'Judicial Research Assistant' on a pure ad-hoc contractual basis.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Research Assistance: Assist the assigned Hon'ble Judge in judicial work by conducting detailed research on legal issues and specific matters.
• Court Support: Attend Court proceedings, maintain professional notes, and draft legal memoranda or summaries.
• Confidentiality & Conduct: Maintain the highest standard of reputation, integrity, and utmost secrecy regarding the work and information handled. Ensure no data or document leakages occur.
• Availability: Required to attend courts, chambers, or the official residence of the Hon'ble Judge when called. Work may extend to court holidays or beyond normal working hours.
Eligibility
• Qualification: Law Graduates who passed their final LL.B. examination (5/6th semester for 3-year course or 9/10th semester for 5-year course) in the first attempt with a minimum of 55% marks, or candidates possessing a Post Graduate Degree in Law (LL.M.). Preference may be given to LL.M. holders.
• Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of computers, laptops, and legal research software relating to case laws is mandatory.
• Age Limit: Between 21 and 30 years of age on the date of application.
• Recommendation Requirement: The candidature must be formally recommended by the Principal of the law institution attended, or by the Presidents of specified Bar Associations (e.g., Bombay Bar Association, AAWI, Incorporated Law Society, or High Court Bar Associations at Nagpur, Aurangabad, Panaji-Goa).
Salary / Perks
• Remuneration: A consolidated stipend/honorarium of Rs. 80,000/- per month.
• Perks: No other allowances are provided. The assignment does not constitute regular employment with the High Court.
Tenure & Service Conditions
• Tenure: Initial period of one year on a contractual basis, extendable by a maximum of one more year subject to the recommendation of the concerned Hon'ble Judge and approval of the Chief Justice.
• Leave: Eligible for a maximum of 8 days of approved leave of absence in a calendar year. Unauthorised absence will result in proportionate salary deductions.
• Restrictions: Strictly barred from practicing as an Advocate in any court or tribunal during the assignment. Barred from practicing before the attached Hon'ble Judge for one year after the cessation of the assignment, and barred from handling cases worked on during the assignment.
• Termination: Can be terminated by either side with a 1-month notice or 1-month salary in lieu of notice. The Hon'ble Chief Justice reserves the right to terminate the service immediately without notice or compensation due to unsatisfactory performance or rules violation.

• Enclosures: Age proof, all semester marksheets & passing certificates (converted to percentage format if under CGPA), computer proficiency certificate, formal recommendation letter from Principal/Bar Association President, Domicile certificate, and Enrollment/achievement certificates if applicable. Cover must be superscribed: 'Application for Appointment of Judicial Research Assistant'.
Deadline
On or before 29/05/2026 till 5:00 p.m. Hand deliveries accepted on working days between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Mode of Selection
Based strictly on merit through a personal interview. Total marks for the interview are 50, with a minimum passing requirement of 25 marks. Final list is subject to the approval of the Hon'ble Chief Justice.
