The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) is an autonomous body set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Central Financial Institutions, and Public Sector Banks. It conducts the Common Recruitment Process (CRP) to select professional executive cadre personnel for participating public sector banks across India.

About the Opportunity

This is a highly sought-after, regular banking career opportunity for the position of Law Officer (Scale I). Selected candidates enter the core executive officer cadre of public sector banks, managing banking legal operations, compliance, loan recovery litigation, and statutory security vetting.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Legal Vetting & Compliance: Reviewing title deeds, loan documentation, and security papers for high-value credit sanctions.

  • Litigation & Recovery: Representing the bank and coordinating cases filed before the Debt Recovery Tribunals (DRT), National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), and Consumer Forums.

  • Advisory: Providing daily legal guidance to branches on banking regulations, fraud cases, freezing orders, and statutory compliance.

  • Drafting: Preparing legal notices, written statements, and handling documentation for recovery under the SARFAESI Act.

Eligibility

  • Educational Qualification: A Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university and enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council.

  • Experience: Nil / Freshers eligible. No prior post-qualification experience is required.

  • Age Limit: Minimum 20 years and Maximum 30 years (Relaxations apply for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates as per Government of India guidelines).

Selection Process

The selection involves a three-tier process:

Online Preliminary Examination: Testing English Language, Reasoning, and General Awareness (with special reference to the Banking Industry).

Online Main Examination: Testing Professional Knowledge (Law).

Interview: Conducted by the participating banks and coordinated by IBPS.
