The National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru, established in 1987, is India’s premier institution for legal education and research. 2. About the Post / Opportunity
NLSIU has invited applications from qualified legal academics for multiple faculty positions across its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The university is seeking scholars committed to teaching, research and academic leadership. Positions are available at the levels of Assistant Professor (Contract), Assistant Professor (Permanent) and Associate Professor (Permanent). These appointments are part of the university’s ongoing faculty expansion plan.
3. Roles and Responsibilities
Faculty members at NLSIU are expected to undertake full-time teaching responsibilities, contribute to curriculum development, supervise research, engage in scholarly publication, and participate in institutional administration. They may also be assigned duties related to centres, academic initiatives, conferences and policy research. The university expects active scholarly engagement and participation in public and academic discourse.
4. Eligibility
Assistant Professor (Contract – 5 Years)
Candidates must hold an LLM with at least 55% marks, with NET/SLET/SET as required under UGC norms, unless exempt on account of a PhD. Prior teaching, research experience and publications are desirable.

Assistant Professor (Permanent)
Eligibility is as per UGC Regulations 2018, including an LLM with 55% marks and NET/SLET/SET (unless exempt). A UGC-compliant PhD offers exemption from NET. Relaxations apply for reserved categories in accordance with UGC norms.

Associate Professor (Permanent)
Candidates must hold a PhD in Law, have at least 8 years of teaching or research experience, and possess a strong research record with a minimum of seven publications in UGC-listed journals along with the required UGC research score.

5. Experience
Experience requirements vary by position. Contractual and permanent Assistant Professors benefit from prior academic, professional, or policy-related work, while Associate Professors must demonstrate substantial teaching and research experience as required by the UGC 2018 Regulations.
6. Compensation / Salary
All positions carry pay as per the 7th Central Pay Commission.

8. Selection Process
Selection will be based on academic credentials, UGC norms, and the university’s internal evaluation process. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a seminar or teaching demonstration, followed by a personal interview. Final merit will be determined by the Faculty Selection Committee.
